Wet vs Dry Cat Food: What’s Best for Your Furry Friend? 🐱

Wet vs Dry Cat Food: What’s Best for Your Furry Friend? 🐱

Feeding your cat is more than just filling a bowl: it’s about hydration, health, and happiness. But the big question remains: wet or dry food? Let’s break it down.

💧 Wet food: Hydration and taste in one

Wet cat food is rich in moisture (around 75-85%) which closely mimics what cats would naturally consume in the wild.

Benefits:

  • Supports kidney function & helps prevent urinary tract issues
  • Texture and aroma are often more appealing to picky eaters
  • Suitable for weight control (when portioned correctly)

Considerations:

  • Needs refrigeration after opening
  • Bit more expensive than dry food
  • Not ideal for free feeding

🥣 Dry Food: easy, crunchy and convenient

Kibble typically had around 10% moisture content and is popular for its convenience, affordability and shelf stability.

Benefits:

  • Easy storage & portion control
  • Crunch texture may aid in dental health
  • Long shelf life: great for multi-cat households and busy cat parents

Considerations:

  • Lower in moisture
  • Easy to overfeed due to calorie density

👉🏻 Can You Mix Them?

Check! Many vets recommend mixed feeding: offering wet and dry food to balance hydration, convenience and nutririon.

Our tips:

  • Feed wet food in the morning and dry in the evening (or vice versa)
  • Adjust portions to avoid overfeeding
  • Always provide fresh water

Unfortunately, there is no ‘one size fits all’. It depends on your cat’s age, activity, drinking habits, health conditions and taste preferences.
